Bleed
Bleed is a print design term that refers to the extra artwork, colour, image, or background that extends beyond the final trim edge of a printed piece. This added space ensures that when materials are cut to size, the design reaches the edge cleanly without leaving accidental white borders. Bleed is commonly used for business cards, brochures, flyers, posters, labels, packaging, stationery, and other printed brand materials.
For growing brands, proper bleed setup helps protect design quality, production accuracy, and visual consistency across physical touchpoints. It is especially important in print and packaging design, where small trim variations can affect how polished the final piece looks. Bleed also supports stronger packaging strategy, more consistent logo branding guidelines, and clearer visual brand guidelines. When designers prepare files with the correct bleed, brands can produce creative materials that feel professional, consistent, and aligned with their overall brand identity.
