Onboarding

Onboarding is the process of helping someone get started with a product, service, platform, company, or experience. In business and marketing, onboarding often refers to the first set of interactions that help a new customer, user, client, or employee understand what to do, how to get value, and what to expect next. It can include welcome emails, setup steps, tutorials, kickoff calls, training materials, account walkthroughs, product tours, checklists, and support resources.

For growing brands, onboarding is important because the first experience can shape trust, satisfaction, retention, and long-term value. Strong onboarding helps reduce confusion, improve activation, and guide people through the right customer journey from the beginning. It connects closely to lifecycle marketing, retention marketing, UX design, and brand experience, because each one influences how clearly and confidently people engage after their first interaction. When paired with a focused growth strategy, effective onboarding can help brands improve engagement, reduce drop-off, increase customer lifetime value, and build stronger relationships from day one.
