Runway

Runway refers to how long a business can keep operating before it runs out of available cash. It is especially important for startups, early-stage companies, and businesses that are investing in product development, hiring, operations, branding, or marketing before becoming profitable. Runway is usually calculated by comparing available cash against the company’s monthly burn rate.

For growing companies, runway helps founders and leadership teams make smarter decisions about spending, fundraising, hiring, and investment timing. A longer runway gives a business more time to test ideas, improve traction, build a stronger brand system, and prepare for future growth. A shorter runway may require reducing expenses, increasing revenue, raising funding, or prioritizing investments that create measurable progress. Strategic runway planning can help businesses decide when to invest in marketing, improve customer acquisition through paid media, and build a focused growth strategy that supports sustainable scaling.
