‍HubSpot Marketing Hub is lead-generation and marketing-automation software that sits on HubSpot’s customer platform. HubSpot describes a platform that brings CRM, content and campaigns together, with free tools plus Starter, Professional and Enterprise editions.

Pardot / Account Engagement is a B2B marketing-automation product built on Salesforce’s CRM. It covers lead and account capture, nurturing, sales and marketing alignment, pipeline generation and account-based marketing. Salesforce’s own Trailhead training explains that it connects marketing and sales through prospect tracking, nurturing and scoring.

The core difference is architecture. HubSpot is one system with marketing and sales sharing a data layer. Pardot and Salesforce are two distinct systems that you connect.

CRM and Salesforce integration

This is where most decisions are really made.

HubSpot can run as your CRM, or it can connect to Salesforce. Pardot has to be linked to Salesforce Sales Cloud. Zapier reports that HubSpot offers a built-in CRM and straightforward data sync, while Pardot’s connector can feel less straightforward to people unfamiliar with Salesforce.

If you already live in Salesforce, you might assume HubSpot is off the table. It is not. HubSpot’s Salesforce connector gives you control over what moves between systems. Its implementation guide says teams can choose which records and fields sync, set source-of-truth and ownership rules, and limit records with inclusion segments or selective sync.

Field mapping is flexible too. HubSpot’s property mapping documentation lists four rules: prefer Salesforce unless blank, always use Salesforce, two-way, or do not sync. It also warns that two-way mappings use the most recent value and that deletions can propagate in both directions. Plan those rules before you turn the sync on, not after.

The trade-off is clear:

Marketing automation, scoring and content tools

Both platforms handle the fundamentals: lead scoring, nurturing, forms, landing pages, email and campaign management. Zapier notes that HubSpot builds journeys in a visual workflow builder, while Pardot uses Engagement Studio.

Salesforce says Account Engagement supports personalized email journeys and landing pages built without code, cross-channel journeys tied to webinars, events, surveys and SMS, Einstein AI scoring, and out-of-the-box analytics on channel impact across the buyer lifecycle.

On AI, Zapier reports that HubSpot includes AI content tools across all paid plans, whereas Pardot’s advanced AI features are generally limited to higher, premium tiers. Check the current edition matrix before you buy, since both vendors change packaging often.

One point applies to both tools. Scoring is only as good as the definitions behind it. Whichever platform you choose, decide what a sales-ready lead looks like first, then build the model. If you want to see how automation can sharpen that qualification step, this overview of AI lead qualification is a good place to start.

Reporting and ease of use

HubSpot wins on accessibility. Zapier’s comparison describes it as more user-friendly, with more than 180 pre-built report templates and granular lead and campaign visibility. Pardot has a steep learning curve for people new to Salesforce, and Salesforce reports can be hard to customize.

That does not make Pardot weak. If your team already builds Salesforce reports and dashboards, Pardot data lives where they already work, and revenue analysis can go as deep as your admins can take it. The cost is configuration time.

A practical test: ask who will build the first pipeline report. If the answer is a marketer, HubSpot will get you there sooner. If the answer is a Salesforce admin or analyst, Pardot is a fair contender.

What each costs in the US

Simple marketing reporting compared with a more configurable Salesforce reporting environment.
Marketing automation license costs expanding to include CRM seats, onboarding, and administration.
Lean B2B team using an integrated platform compared with a Salesforce organization supported by dedicated administration.
Buyer strategy, brand positioning, and pipeline planning guiding marketing automation technology.

Prices below are the vendors’ published US list prices at the time of writing. Confirm them on the vendor pages before budgeting, because they change.

HubSpot Marketing HubPardot (Account Engagement)EntryStarter from $20/month per Core Seat, one seat includedGrowth+ $1,250/month, billed annually, 10,000 contactsMidProfessional from $890/month, three Core Seats includedPlus+ $2,750/month, billed annuallyUpperEnterprise from $3,600/month billed annually, five Core Seats includedAdvanced+ $4,400/month, billed annuallyTopNot applicablePremium+ $15,000/month, billed annually

Sources: HubSpot’s product catalog and Salesforce’s Account Engagement pricing page. Additional HubSpot Core Seats cost $20, $50 and $75 per month on Starter, Professional and Enterprise respectively. Additional Pardot contacts beyond the Growth+ allowance cost extra.

The costs outside the license

Onboarding. HubSpot’s own pricing guide lists a $3,000 one-time onboarding fee for Professional and $7,000 for Enterprise.

CRM seats. Pardot needs Salesforce Sales Cloud, so the Salesforce seats sit on top of the Pardot license. Budget for both.

Admin time. Pardot rewards teams with Salesforce administration capacity. Without it, you may end up paying for outside configuration work.

Execution. A platform does not write the emails, build the landing pages or manage the paid campaigns that feed it. The license is often the smaller line in the total marketing budget.

Which one fits your company

For VC-backed SaaS companies in growth mode, the first list usually describes the situation better. A lean team with a fast-changing go-to-market motion benefits from a system it can change without a ticket queue. For larger organizations with years of Salesforce investment, switching the CRM is rarely worth it, and Pardot is the logical extension.

Our perspective

B2B marketing team evaluating CRM, automation, reporting, cost, and ownership before choosing a platform.

We see this decision go wrong in one way more than any other: teams pick the tool first and the strategy second. A marketing platform is a delivery mechanism. It does not decide who your buyer is, what your brand stands for or why a prospect should trust you over the next vendor.

So we ask three questions before we ever compare features. What does the pipeline need to look like in 12 months? Who owns the data? And what will the team actually have the time and skills to run? The honest answer to the third question settles more platform debates than any comparison table.

Brand and performance belong in the same system. Nurture sequences, scoring models and lifecycle emails only convert when the message is clear and the creative is consistent from first touch to renewal. That is what we call brand-backed performance™: positioning, creative, digital platforms and marketing tactics aligned so results are traceable and profitable. Whichever platform you pick, build the messaging and retention programs first, then configure the tool around them.

Getting more from whichever platform you choose

The platform is the engine, and your program is the fuel. Teams that see strong returns from either tool tend to do the same things: they define lifecycle stages cleanly, align sales and marketing on lead definitions, feed the system with a steady flow of qualified traffic, and keep improving conversion paths.

That last part is where an agency partner earns its place. At The Branded Agency we combine brand strategy, creative, web development, paid media and retention marketing, so the work your platform runs is built to perform. Our published pricing includes Retention Marketing from $6,500 per month, Paid Media Management from $5,500 per month and Growth Strategy from $8,500 per month. See the full list on our pricing page, or talk to us about how paid media management can fill the pipeline your automation platform nurtures.

For wider planning, our B2B marketing strategies guide shows how these pieces fit together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Brand, creative, paid media, and lifecycle marketing feeding a B2B automation platform and sales pipeline.

Is Pardot the same as Marketing Cloud Account Engagement?

Yes. Pardot is the legacy name, and Salesforce confirms that Account Engagement is the same product. Many buyers and consultants still say Pardot, so you will see both names in search results and vendor documentation.

Is HubSpot good as a CRM?

It can be. HubSpot provides a built-in CRM that shares data with its marketing tools, which Zapier highlights as a strength for teams that want straightforward data sync. If you need heavily customized objects or already run Salesforce across sales, evaluate that need before you move.

Can I use HubSpot with Salesforce?

Yes. HubSpot offers a Salesforce connector with field-level mapping and selective sync. Plan which system owns each field, and test the setup in a sandbox before going live, as HubSpot’s documentation advises.

Which is cheaper, HubSpot or Pardot?

At the entry level HubSpot is generally cheaper. Marketing Hub Professional starts at $890/month, and Pardot Growth+ is $1,250/month billed annually. Pardot also requires Salesforce Sales Cloud, so compare total cost, including CRM seats, onboarding and admin time.
