Pivot

A pivot is a strategic shift a business makes when its current direction is not working as expected or when a stronger opportunity becomes clear. A company may pivot by changing its product, business model, target audience, pricing, messaging, market focus, or brand positioning. Pivots are common among startups, but established businesses may also pivot when customer behaviour, competition, technology, or market conditions change.

For growing companies, a pivot can help reduce risk, improve product-market fit, strengthen relevance, and create a clearer path forward. A successful pivot often requires honest performance analysis, customer feedback, updated messaging, and a focused brand strategy. Businesses may also need to adjust their growth strategy, refresh their identity through brand evolution, or execute a strategic rebrand if the shift changes how the company should be understood in the market. When planned carefully, a pivot can help a business adapt with purpose, protect momentum, and build a stronger foundation for long-term growth.
